EFFECTIVENESS OF SELECTIVE GENOTYPING ON OTHER STRATEGIES OF SAMPLING IN ASSISTED SELECTION FOR LABELS 01/07/2009

Published in Number: Número 5, primeiro semestre de 2009

Marcelo Jangarelli, Ricardo Frederico Euclydes, Paulo Roberto Cecon

This study compares the selection of individuals in the lower and upper extreme of the normal distribution of phenotypic values of a particular characteristic with a random selection of individuals which were located in the upper extreme of the normal distribution. In this analogy, three scenarios were considered: a selection of 10, 25 and 40% of the number of available individuals in the experimental population. The average phenotypic value represented the parameter used to compare the selection strategies. The results showed that selective genotyping is an effective methodology to optimize the power of detecting QTL (quantitative trait loci), being superior to the others on the three considered scenarios.
